Description

Learning and Care Support Assistant

Permanent, Full Time

£17,374- £18, 435  dependent on qualifications and experience

The Loddon School, based in Sherfield-on-Loddon near Basingstoke, is both a home and school to 28 children who have the most severe and complex learning difficulties and severe autism. Our children live at the school 52 weeks a year. The Loddon School is a home which provides education, leisure, play and outings.

The school does not have classrooms, as our children will not learn this way, instead we incorporate learning into activities. Activities can range from a long walk through the country or meeting our animals at our very own farm. You could be taking part in a swimming lesson at our on-site pool or you might be having an art or music lesson outside in our vast grounds.

The role of the Learning & Care Support Assistant is to care for our children working as part of a team to ensure the children’s emotional, behavioural, physical and intellectual needs are met. You will follow the child’s Risk Assessment and Behaviour Guidelines at all times to ensure a consistent and safe approach is followed. You will support the children in all aspects of their everyday life to help them make their needs known and you will implement all of the children’s teaching programmes and support the Teacher to ensure that children enjoy fulfilling fun teaching and leisure activities.

All new starters receive 4 weeks of shadowing and training. You will never be on your own for the first 4 weeks of employment whilst you learn about the children and the job role.

We are looking for dedicated individuals who are passionate about providing the highest standards of care and facilitating opportunities for learning for our wonderful children. Previous experience of looking after children with autism would be an advantage however a can-do attitude and commitment to the children and your team is equally as important and full training will be given.

Flexibility on days is key as working hours are between 7.30am and 10pm as well as the ability to commit to working alternate weekends.

Please note: The school is located in an area which is hard to access via public transport. Please check that you will be able to access the school from your home location before applying.

Applicants must have a right to work in the UK and willing to undertake an enhanced DBS check. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
