Description

Night Learning & Care Support Assistant

Permanent, Full Time

£17,374- £18, 435 dependent on qualifications and experience

The Loddon School, based in Sherfield-on-Loddon near Basingstoke, is both a home and school to 28 children who have the most severe and complex learning difficulties and severe autism. Our children live at the school 52 weeks a year. The Loddon School is a home which provides education, leisure, play and outings.

The school does not have classrooms, as our children will not learn this way, instead we incorporate learning into activities. Activities can range from arts & craft sessions, learning numeracy outside in our vast grounds or meeting our animals at our very own farm.

The role of the Night learning & Care Support Assistant is to ensure the safety of the children throughout the night adhering to school’s policies, procedures and the children’s guidelines. You will work as part of a team to ensure the children’s emotional, behavioural, physical and intellectual needs are met. You will follow the child’s Risk Assessment and Behaviour Guidelines at all times to ensure a consistent and safe approach is followed. You will support the children in all aspects of their everyday life to help them make their needs known and will implement all of the children’s teaching programmes to ensure that children enjoy fulfilling fun teaching and leisure activities. As well as this you will be the responsible member of staff for your designated group of children. You will remain awake at all times throughout the night and will check on the children at regular intervals. You may also undertake domestic duties such as housework, washing, cleaning & tidying of community areas during the night.

All new starters receive 4 weeks of shadowing and training. It is important that as part of the induction process you work 2 weeks of this on days, and the remaining 2 weeks of shadowing on nights.

You will never be on your own for the first 4 weeks of employment whilst you learn about the children and the job role.

We are looking for dedicated individuals who are passionate about providing the highest standards of care and facilitating opportunities for learning for our wonderful children. Previous experience of looking after children with autism would be an advantage however a can-do attitude and commitment to the children and your team is equally as important and full training will be given.

For night staff you will be expected to work 3 nights per week from 7.30pm to 07.45 am and work a one in two weekend shift pattern.

Applicants must have a right to work in the UK and willing to undertake an enhanced DBS check. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
